To be able to attract the right number of players, you want to find a balance between visual appeal, use of latest gaming technology and smart level design that keeps your audience engaged.

Here’s what you want to take into account when designing a computer game -

  1. Decide the Game’s Genre:

Make sure you are clear about the genre of your game beforehand. This will make the creation process a lot easier. Also take a look at other games under this genre for some inspiration or to identify potential problems you may face during the development process.
  2. Pick Software that meets your Requirements:

Choosing the correct platform for the game development process. This will dictate the games controls and considerably impacts how you will develop the game and how the user will interact with it. While you pursue your masters in computer games technology, you will find that Game Maker Studio is popular for 2D game development while Unity is recommended for 3D development.
  3. Make an Initial Prototype:

Start by listing the basic features you intend to include in the game before spending all your time and energy into creating the detailed artwork. You need to know whether your vision can actually be realistically manifested. It is best to start with a rough framework and test it while adhering to the games rules. This way, if it doesn’t work you can either make appropriate changes or abandon the idea.
  4. Creating the Graphics:

Next, create the graphics. Write down the smallest details and create them. Choose to work on the graphics yourself or hire an expert designer to bring you to finish you want for the game
  5. Adding Music and Sound Effects:

Today it is relatively easy to create a unique tune for each accomplishment or occurrence during the game. Readily available tunes can also be added to your game.
  6. Market Research:

While you will obviously be the first one to play your own game, it is important to test the waters by making a few friends or focus groups play it before your launch it to the mass market.

You may be surprised to find that they may play the game in ways that you hadn’t envisaged yourself. Also make it a point to bug test the game and refine the controls. Considering building your own computer game? Read this article to understand the approach to consider for long-term success.

A profession in graphic designing can hold viable promise for a successful career. With the right set of skills to make a mark in the field of graphic design, there is a lot you can do upon graduation.

Career Options for Graphic Designers to Consider

Here are a few interesting career options to consider as a graphic designer -
  1. Logo Designer

We are encompassed by logos everywhere. A hefty portion of them are attractive, memorable and creative. Brands such as McDonalds, Campbell's Soup and Nike have hit the right notes when it comes to creating the right log. And who do you think was behind those designers? Logo configuration is perfect for individuals who adore working with design and content equally. A brand’s logo is a critical part of its marking communications.
  2. Advertising

Top up your graphic design experience with an advertising course and you will open doors to a whole new world of opportunity. Advertising incorporates various parts of a brand’s marketing system, including TV and radio advertisements, creation of catchphrases, shading plans, and logo outline among other things. Furthermore, in the age of social media engagement, graphic designing proves to be key to any advertising campaign. Visual architects in advertising are in charge of creating the general population picture of an organization.
  3. Marketing

Promoting (advertising) and publicizing (marketing) are an inseparable unit. While advertisers concerned about creating a positive perception of a brand, marketers are all the more specifically required in move units or offer a more comprehensive approach to building sales. While the advertising team is responsible to create reliability programs, send leaflets and coupons, and basically attempt to assemble connections between the buyer and the brand; who plans those coupons and pamphlets? Graphic designers.
  4. Website Designer

A website designer works on creating a site from scratch. This means in addition to using your impeccable graphic design skills, you will also look into the nitty-gritty’s of coding to create a functional and appealing website for your clients. Websites have become much more refined and easy to understand, permitting website designers to make excellent, beautiful, intelligent and enlightening sites. A few fashioners concentrate on the "front end", which includes the style of website composition, while engineers concentrate more on how site functions, and are specialists in HTML, CSS, JavaScript et cetera.
  5. Print Publication Designer

While digital media is overwhelming the conventional mediums for marketing, there is still a solid interest for desktop publishing. With an advertising course in Singapore in your sleeve, become a print publication designer and take a shot at improving the look and clarity of daily papers, magazines, books, pamphlets, leaflets and other print distributions. Desktop publishing is still exceptionally attractive for computerized plan parts.
  6. Art Director

With regards to settling on the last innovative choices, the buck stops with the art director. A person at this post, heads a group of creative people who take a shot at limited time crusades, promotions and other business fine art. As a rule, the position can be achieved after one has invested years in an imaginative part and has climbed the professional bureaucracy. An art director, for the most part, wouldn't do much hands-on innovative stuff, yet rather would ensure that the group is on track and on calendar. He or she regularly manages real customers.

These are only a modest bunch of parts that a visual/graphic designer can consider. Others incorporate being a book planner, artist or specialized artist. A graphic designer can establish good career in any of the above-mentioned arenas.

Graphic design as a vocation offers significant scope in various industries. This blog discusses the various options you have at hand after acquiring relevant graphic design skills.

As someone who has completed the graphic design course you will be trained to keep yourself abreast of all the designing tools on market. Make sure you are updated about these tools that can be useful for your work.

CorelDraw and Photoshop are among the more popular programs that professional designers most often rely on.

Choosing the Right Graphic Design Tool - CorelDraw versus Photoshop

Here is a comparison of the two software to help you assess which one works better for you.

What does CorelDraw offer?

CorelDraw is a graphic editing software that belongs to the Corel Corporation. With the help of this tool, you can set contrast and color balance in the vector area easily. In the CorelDraw Graphics Suite package, you will get vector design and layout app option for editing and retouching photos, font navigator, image capturing option for screen grabs and much more. You also get bar-code wizard and an app that lets you work on two-sided printouts.

What does PhotoShop offer?

On the other hand, you really have to be well trained to use this tool as it’s not very easy to learn. Adobe Photoshop is often used by designers for image creation and photo editing. In addition to this, it is also used for enhancement for online and print properties. In the graphic designing field, this tool is mainly recognized for its digital imaging and imaging concept job. Once you learn to rely on Photoshop, you will be able to work with any imaging tool, especially those which have similar interface and functions, with ease.

Where do these two tools differ?

CorelDraw allows you to create a vector art file of any size you want without damaging its color block. However, if you intend to do same thing with Photoshop, you will find that your color block will get pixilated. On the other hand, Photoshop gives you artistic control as it comes with the to create desired effects in the graphics. A feature that is not available in Corel.

Which is better, then?

Both of these tools have their own strengths and weaknesses. So wherever possible most designers will recommend that you use these tools in combination for your graphics designing project. It is recommended that you pursue extensive research on your project and the tools that you will require to achieve your graphic design goals. While pursuing your graphic design course in Singapore, you will be able to identify with the various features of these programs allowing you to make effective design decisions as your go.

Motion Graphic
Motion Graphic

Here are a few simple hacks that you may want to master after your design courses in Singapore that can really help in adding character to you project–

  • Gradients

Even though this is one of the basic most tools to use, it completely alters the uniformity in text and backgrounds. Furthermore, this option adds bit of shape and depth into your colors. If you are struggling to find ways to make your animation look less flat, using a radial gradient ramp is the way to go.
  • Shadows

Use the drop shadow feature to add depth to your animation. For instance, if you are working on your motion graphic titles, simply make the bottom layer black, include a CC Radial Blur and move it higher up to create an impression of a light source above the text.
  • Vignette

For a motions graphic project, video games or color grading, you can rely on vignettes almost anything in your design you want the viewer to focus on. Create a vignette by making a dark solid along with an inverted circular mask. Next, feather the mask and adjust its opacity. You can transfer modes and also get creative with colors to arrive at different looks.
  • Color Grading

Adjust the color to create the right feel for your motion graphic design to completely transform itself. Different ways to achieve this involve including a tint effect, making some curve effects or overlaying some color solids. Furthermore, you may also be able to find some effective third-party plug-ins to use for your color grading requirements.
  • Textures

Textures can used in exceptional ways when you wish to add character to your titles. You can find thousands of free textures on the web. A simpler option is to pre-comping your text and putting the texture under it. However, remember to set the track matte of this texture to “Alpha matte”.
  • Contrast

Every motion graphic design course has talked about “contrast curves” at some point of the program. By using the curve effect, lowering the shadows and raising the highlights you can easily create an S curve.
  • Glow

Your program may come with built in glow filters or you will be able to find a third-party filter. To create a great glow effect, duplicate the object you wish to make glow and set the transfer mode to “Add” for its top layer. Now, apply a fast blur effect and adjust the opacity and blur to a point you are satisfied with.
  • Background Movement

Include a background movement in your animation to make it much more interesting to look at. When you see movie trailers you will find that many of them rely on scaled up blurred images that are panned sideways.
  • Light Sweep

The built in CC Light Sweep effect is a great tool to use to make your text look shiny. Simply play around with some of the settings and then animate its position to get the results you want. The harder way to do it is by creating your own light sweep. This can be done by matting white solid to the text.
  • Light Rays

Most motion graphics programs come with a built in light ray filter. There are also a host of third party filters that help achieve this effect. In some third-party plug-ins you will have to change the default color in the settings section.

By including these effects into your animation, you are essentially adding significant character to its aesthetics to create an appealing final product for your audiences. Make the most of your design course in Singapore to master each one of these hacks.

This article talks about some simply but effective hacks worth using in your motion graphics design.

Graphic Designing is an art that can be mastered by practicing and gathering constant feedback. The graphic designers put in a lot of effort to bring forth the best possible designs. Such artists prefer going to Design College in Singapore in order to learn graphic designing in detail. There are possibilities of error in the designs because of the human factor. Read on to know some mistakes that graphic designers make.

Not paying attention to details

This is one of the gravest mistake that the designers do. Details should be paid attention too. Small mistakes can cost a fortune for the companies and the designer. These mistakes are worse in the print because the circulation is in a huge geography and there is no way to correct it. However, errors in web designing can be corrected in real time. Imagine making a spelling mistake in the name of the company while designing print ads. This can lead to various repercussions.

Not knowing the right tools

Most of the designers are comfortable working on a particular tool. The try to work out everything on it just because they hesitate from learning new tools. This is a great mistake. A designer should know all the tools available and learn most of them to know how he or she can use them to make his work better.

Not starting from black and white

Most of the designers start working on images and artwork in color. This should not be done. The images should be made in black and white first. This helps in giving details to the image. The colored version can be made later.

Not preparing a checklist

Generally, the designers have a tendency to start working on a project as soon as possible. However, it is better to prepare a checklist first. The designer should know what all points he has to keep in mind while designing. Key highlights, dos and don’ts should be kept handy. After the project is completed, the design should be checked against the checklist to ensure that all the points are incorporated.

Fear of white spaces

Designers try to fill too much color or information in limited space. This leads to a space trap. The result is a mess that is too difficult to comprehend. IT is important to understand that white spaces have their own charm. They bring in simplicity and clarity to the design. Thus, wherever possible, do include white spaces.

Improper typography choices

Various design projects need text to be include in them. The designers try to make the whole thing glamorous and add fonts that are too heavy to go with the design. Thus, a balance should be maintained between the design and the font of text. Including many typefaces and illegible fonts that do not go with the design, make the whole project look bad. Thus, special attention should be given to blend the font and design together.

After reading the mistakes that graphic designers usually make, you can be better prepared for your next project. In order to gain more knowledge about graphic designing, do join Design College in Singapore.

Your style is your signature; you should never ever forget this. In order to create a style and to make sure it reaches the targeted audience, you need to be unique. Until and unless a designer is comfortable with his or her own style, he or she won’t be able to impress the audience. Although most of the new designers have the tendency to adopt a wide array of contemporary approaches for the sake of surviving in the industry, it’s better to follow your own designing abilities and instinct. As long as they are unique and provide a structure to your designs, your audiences will like them.

  • Conventional art skills are always in

The idea about traditional art can help you with designing. In fact, it’s an important aspect of designing that can help you communicate your graphic design to your targeted audiences in the best possible way. After all, it’s always a good idea to sketch your imaginations on a paper before giving it a digital makeover and it’s fast too.

  • Understanding animation is important

The job profile of motion designer includes giving life to inanimate, 2-dimensional elements. And in order to do this, you need to have a sound knowledge about animation and related aspects because animation is not only about keyframes and timeline.

  • Typography rules

When it comes to motion graphic designing, typography is an important tool. In fact, a skilled graphic designer can deliver a complete message just with the help of typography. Therefore, understanding this aspect of graphic designing is crucial for every designer.

  • Know color theory

If you want to be a successful motion designer, you should have a sound knowledge about colors and their applications. That’s because colors are an integral part of motion designing. Colors have the power to communicate and express different feelings and moods very easily. So, you need to select a color wisely. Otherwise, your design might flop.

  • Think, but creatively

The job profile of a motion designer asks him or her to put life into graphic elements in the best way possible. Some projects have very few information, to begin with and this where creative thinking comes into play. Your ability to give an appealing shape to something that’s very vague will decide whether or not you deserve to be one among the best designers of the industry.

Remember, a motion graphic design diploma and your skills will help you take your career as a motion graphic designer to the next level.
